On August 8, 2005, President Bush signed into law the Energy Policy Act of 2006 (EPACT). Section 1252 of the Electricity Section of EPACT is Titled “Smart Metering” and it includes new requirements on States, DOE and FERC with respect to Demand Response and Advanced Metering.
